1. A whistling teakettle.
2. A cappella singing, especially at Brookline or Highland, or in anyone’s living room with people I love.
3. My pen scratching across the paper.
4. Wind chimes.
5. Swing music.
6. Waves lapping on the shore.
7. Church bells (the Sacred Heart church, down the street, chimes beautifully and often).
8. Babies laughing.
9. Typewriter keys.
10. The wind in my face and hair when I ride a bike.
11. Puppies snoring.
12. The words “I love you.”
How about yours?
My children’s voices on the phone (I don’t know what it is, but they sound so different on the phone than they do in person – It always melts me). Wind or rain outside when I’m cozy inside. A crackling fire. The mailman’s footsteps in the yard or the slamming of the box when he’s put things in it. Football games on t.v. (in the background). Tires on gravel – I don’t know, I just like it. The hush in a crowd right before the National Anthem and the sound change right before the previews start in a movie theater. To name a few.
You know what’s weird? When I see that you’ve put up a new blog post these days I think, “Oh Katie’s written!” just as if your move actually did affect my proximity to you and I’m getting a letter from your new faraway home. I don’t know what that is….
Oh, I’m with you on the church bells. I was in Romania in ’08 and happened to be in the historic city center at noon one day when 4 or 5 churches bells’ all went off at the same time. It was amazing. So beyond being a beautiful sound, it now reminds me of one of my favorite places! My hubby and I just moved and there is a church across the street and one next door and they have the loveliest bells that ring each day and it just makes me so happy!!
Cheers,
Katie
