This makes me want to go back to DC, STAT. I've been twice, the first for a youth group conference in which we barely saw the city and then 2 years ago to visit my brother. We went to the Holocaust Museum and it was beyond moving.

Oh my! I love DC so much – and have memories of childhood trips, middle school field trips, and college layered very much like yours! My favs: the Albert Einstein Memorial...the Korean War Memorial at night is breath taking...the new Museum of the Native American Indian is amazing and so well done (I’ve heard great things about the food court, but it’s not cheap)...the Holocaust Museum is...I don't even know how to describe it, but you should absolutely see it. It's obviously much, much more somber than a lot of the other sights, and you should be sure to have tissues…absolutely a must see.

I can’t help myself – I have to make recommendations! For a nice dinner, check out Jaleo near Metro Center. My favorite thing to do on a Sat/Sun morning is to wander through the craft and flea markets at Eastern Market with a hot/iced beverage of choice (from Perregrine on the way to the market from the Metro, or Port City Java just across from the outdoor craft vendors, if you want something local, but Starbucks is also right at the Metro). You MUST check out Capitol Hill Books (www.capitolhillbooks-dc.com/chbooksdc) while you’re at Eastern Market – it is the most amazing used book store… last time I was there, I came across a giant stack of books that were all Little Women related, so obviously you will like it! ;) If you’re near Eastern Market around dinner time, Banana Café and Piano Bar is fun! If you’re there during baseball season, the ballpark is great and you should try to get tickets! There are also a few spots in Dupont Circle you would like - Kramerbooks & Afterwords (immediately north off the circle), a great LYS a few blocks further north (loopedyarnworks.com– it’s on the second floor, so you’ll have to pay close attention), and Teaism is just around the corner (they have other locations as well) and is a good spot for lunch or a tea and snack break. There’s another used book store on P Street just west of the circle, as well, but I can’t remember the name – it’s on the left when you’re walking away from the circle.

I could go on forever, but I’m pretty sure you would need a week or more to squeeze in all my suggestions, so I’ll stop! Oh - one more! Across from Ford’s Theater is Lincoln’s Waffle Shop – great greasy spoon breakfast!

I feel a lot of those things for the city of Boston. I've been three times now and each experience had its own joys. The first time was a weekend trip with my mother, after we had spent a few days in New York, for my eighteenth birthday. We got stuck in our hotel on the last day because of a Nor'easter and wondered if we would be able to get home on time. We did.

The second was a two week trip with the ACU Honors College and I really fell in love with Boston then. I loved knowing exactly where I was going, like I had lived there a long time. The only other places I feel that way about are parts of Oxford and, of course, Abilene.

And you know about the third trip. :)
