Fall has come suddenly here in the Northeast, or maybe it’s just sudden because I’m not used to fall arriving until mid-October. Growing up, I always knew in a cerebral way that it was supposed to get cooler in the fall, but it rarely ever did, until winter arrived mid-November with biting winds and sudden gray days.
Up here, however, fall has come early, and so far, gently enough to let us enjoy it. The first apples and pumpkins are out at the farmer’s market (and at the orchards). Fall festivals abound. The breezes are cool at night; the sky is a deep, steadfast blue or a moody grey; the leaves are starting to turn, or at least tinge, red and orange and gold:

I love so many things about fall that I don’t want to miss a single one – and so here, dear readers, is a list of what to do/eat/drink/enjoy this fall in Boston:
1. Go apple picking (we went with some people from church, and it was fabulous)
2. Make and eat/drink plenty of apple desserts/apple cider (working on it)
3. Drink chai lattes on Boston Common, wearing a scarf
4. Go to a few outdoor events/festivals
5. Gather and press some colorful leaves
6. Attend the Brookline Turkeypalooza (Thanksgiving event)
7. Show my parents around Boston (they’re coming in November)
8. Eat lots of clam chowder, in a bread bowl when I can get it
9. Make pumpkin dishes (pumpkin bread, etc.)
10. Take a drive to see the fall foliage
11. Meet Erin when she comes to Wellesley and Boston
12. Wear my handknits (and make some new ones) as the weather turns cooler
13. Eat some candy corn (only in October)
14. Enjoy my fall-scented candles
15. Celebrate Nate’s birthday (in November)
Anything you’re looking forward to doing, or already doing, this fall?
Oh I love fall so much and have had to accept that it is not a season we get to enjoy here in the desert. I really miss the changing leaves- although we are going home in November and I plan to soak up every minute of it~ enjoy your activities, they sound fantastic!
Fall is my absolute favorite of all the seasons! I’m ready for consistent cold days. Enjoy and soak up your first Quincy fall, friend!
