“I’d never get tired of red,” said the Story Girl. “I just love it—it’s so rich and glowing. When I’m dressed in red I always feel ever so much cleverer than in any other colour. Thoughts just crowd into my brain one after the other. Oh, you darling dress—you dear, sheeny, red-rosy, glistening, silky thing!”
She flung it over her shoulder and danced around the kitchen.

I ordered a copy of Red is Best for a friend recently, and tried to make Jeremiah guess whom it was for. (He hates guessing games, but usually goes along with mine.) “Whom do we know that loves red so much?” I asked. He stared at me and answered, “You!”
Ahem. Well, yes. I bought a red v-neck sweater this weekend, after searching for the perfect one for months. I’ve knitted seven red items (though four are gifts!) since mid-October. My long red wool coat has made its winter debut; I rock the red wellies whenever it rains; and my red Evangeline mitts are getting plenty of play on these cold days. Not to mention my red bathrobe, our red bath towels and dishes and couch slipcover, and all the other red things in our house.
“You suit red,” my housemate Lizzie used to tell me – though she and other housemates have made fun of me for having enough red and pink laundry to merit its own load. But like Sara Stanley, above, I love red. I do feel cleverer in it – and, even if it’s not Christmas, I also feel festive and jazzy.
Do you have a color you never get tired of? (Any fellow red-lovers out there?)
Blue. All kinds of blue. I have a blue peacoat that I get TONS of compliments on. My engagement ring has a sapphire in it. The curtains in my house are blue. My bedspread is blue. I have had absolutely zero trouble finding a “something blue” for my wedding. I’ve been told I look good in red and am actually wearing red today, but blue will always be my color love.
You look so beautiful in it! I love red too, but buying colors is my greatest shopping fail over the last two decades. I also love Tiffany blue, and I don’t have anything in that right now either. It’s terrible! I want to feel clever and rosy and glistening!
(I adore this quote. LM Montgomery is so good at characters who RELISH the little things. I love it.)
I also love red, it’s a power color for me. It has to be a deep red, though, tinted towards blue. Sadly, A doesn’t like red. He gets that, objectively, I look really good in red, but he’s adverse to the color itself. This is tough, because I was a punk rock girl who rocked red lips for years. I still have a perfect shade for when I want to feel powerful and sexy. But I see A give a tiny sigh whenever I put it on…ah, the compromises of being married and having to look hot for your husband. 🙂
You do look so lovely in red! Grey is my color, and has been for about ten years or so. Sometimes I “mix it up” with a little black 🙂 My shopping strategy is pretty much to find a style I like and buy the grey one. Or maybe two of the grey one. And so, nearly every item of clothing I own, with the exception of jeans, is grey. It is a little quirky, but I don’t mind; I love the color, and it suits my skin tone, so I don’t really ever feel much need to wear any other color!
I don’t wear a lot of red, but bright red wellies are on my Must-Have list for whenever Portland becomes a reality. Right now my favorite colors are charcoal gray and mustard yellow — even better when they’re combined!
Oh I definitely go on color streaks. That coat is beautiful. anyway, Red, Forest Green, and Dark Blue have all been themes. 🙂
I love red! But I also like pink, shades of blue and earth tones too..and I can’t forget green.. Lol!
Love the coat! I can’t really wear red unless it has blue undertones because warm colors make me look ill. My colors are blue and green – especially green. Cool colors are where it’s at when you have blonde hair and green eyes! Plus I love that they are the colors of grass and sky and river – some of my favorite things.
