I avoided horizontal stripes for ages, out of self-consciousness and a horror of overemphasizing my curves. (Isn’t it odd how we pick up bits of assorted advice, some sound and others decidedly not so, and obey them like commandments for years?)
I am mostly a solid-colors girl, with scarves providing a bit of pattern and/or contrast during three seasons of the year. But this fall I am embracing the stripes. They are fun, sophisticated and snazzy. And, done right, they work nicely with my body, curves and all.
What patterns (or other trends) do you love? As seen above, I also adore scarves, leggings, ballet flats, my big-but-delicate silver hoop earrings, and the color red. (And I am a wee bit jealous of Abi’s charming hat.)
You look lovely!

While I was pregnant, I wore stripes ALL THE TIME. Because I could. And it didn’t matter if I looked fat, because I was – ha! I’ve been pondering a stripey shirt for my non-pregnant state, perhaps you have made me brave enough.
I really hate jewelry – I scarcely even wear my wedding ring. But my new accessory of choice is my hair: lots of fancy braids and flowers in it. Loving those pinterest-y hair trends!
Cute, cute, cute! I used to never wear stripes and then I watched Coco Avant Chanel. Something about those striped shirts grabbed me and I’ve steadily incorporated them into my wardrobe ever since.
I recently bought a striped shirt at J C Penney that has horizontal strips that get closer together near the hips. It creates a slimmer illusion – yay – and looks quite stylish 🙂 Now I think stripes are awesome, too!
I’m still scared of horizontal stripes. You pull them off beautifully, though! I don’t follow trends, really, but when it comes to prints or patterns I’m partial to vintage-y floral patterns, maybe with a knitted lace scarf to complement.
